G729 is a low bandwidth codec, which can operates at a lower bandwidth of 8Kb/s per call instead of 64kb/s when using G711a-law /G711u-law. This describes how to install the G729 free codec on AsteriskNow without the need to license it from Digium Addons. Jun 04, 2007 allow=g729; we support alaw,ulaw,ilbc,gsm,g723.1,g726,g729a But anyway let's say you want to use g729 and you have a one channel license, the problem is with your xlite configuration. Your g729 license will server as translation between the codec you will use in X-lite and your iax connection with voipms. X-lite doesn't support g729.

HiI have a little different problem. In my case g729 pass-thru option is working good in few accounts. But one of my account using alaw codec. And here I have problem.I have extension with 'allow=g729&alaw' and trunk with incoming settings 'allow=alaw'.PAP2 connected to extension has 'Preferred Codec = g729' with and 'Use Pref Codec Only = NO'.But when I have incoming call Asterisk can't find codec: NOTICE 2735: chansip.c:9257 processsdp: No compatible codecs, not accepting this offer!Even when I'm setting up everywhere (extension, trunk-in and PAP2) 'alaw' I have the same problem.I was trying to set Incoming Route to IVR and from IVR to Extension.
And on IVR everything is fine, when call is transferring to extension I have ring on the phone, when I'm answering I have the same problem 'NOTICE 2735: chansip.c:9257 processsdp: No compatible codecs, not accepting this offer!' And disconnection.I didn't have any problem on freepbx in virtual machine on my PC.Thanks for any idea.Best regards,Arcos. I need volunteer Beta testers very soon. You will already have hardware VoIP phones that support G.729A. You will also have to let me know how many transcode channels you will be able to test (I've already managed to test a 4 channel conference with 3 G.711uG.729A transcoding channels at just 35% CPU, with Snom, Elmeg, Linksys and Sipura hardware).I think we can support about 7 simultaneous transcodes on a 700MHz 256MB Pi. You need to contact me by email. I need others to confirm this.No commercial use though.
